Taking Care of Our Customers

We are committed to taking care of our customers. As a business, our success is dependent on how people feel about our products. The following is how we take care of our customers.

Making Sure the Process is Natural

The best nuts and wine come from natural growth. We don’t use any pesticides or chemicals to boost the growth of our trees and vines. This means you get products that are completely natural and organic.

Handling with Care

When we go out to pick the nuts and grape, we ensure that we have our gloves on and we do everything we can to preserve the integrity of them. We treat them like babies because that’s what they are – babies ready to grow up in to the nuts and wine we love so much.

Packaging for Preservation

We know that most people want to enjoy our products not just as soon as they purchase them, but multiple times. We love that and want to make sure our products are safe from some of the external elements that can make them expire quicker. This is why we went through a careful process to choose packages that would keep our products at the quality they are when they are packaged.

Customer Service

We are people people. That means we enjoy meeting new people and helping them choose the products that will make them the happiest. If you come into our store, we will tell you about the products and answer any questions you may have about them. You can then make a decision on what you would like to try based on the information.

We hate it when our customers are unhappy, so we want to make that situation rare. For those times when customers aren’t happy, please know we want to resolve any problems as quickly and easily for our customers. This means if you are not happy with the product, let us know. If you feel you didn’t have good customer service, let us know. If you just have questions or other concerns, let us know. We would rather know and deal with it then hear that we have disappointed someone.

We are here because of you. We know that, and we will continue to provide you with the nuts and wine that make you just as happy as they make us. We truly love walnuts and wine, so we identify with you on that level completely.

Looking forward to making you happy!

The Pride You Have in a Product

We have a lot of pride in our products. When we grow the trees and vines for our walnuts and wine, we make sure we are doing it in the most natural way possible. This is the way we would do it if we were the consumer, so we want to pass that along to our customers.

Every single step of the process gets a lot of attention. We don’t just produce to make money. We produce to make people happy and healthy.

The pride we have in our products is something we hope is felt by our customers, AND our customers can have in our products as well. If you’ve ever purchased a product that you liked, you know what it means to have pride in it. You may tell your friends and family about it. You may want to use that product more than others. You may just be satisfied. These are the feelings we want our customers to have when they purchase our products.

The Reason We Are In Business

The reason we are in business is to offer customers good quality walnuts and wine. While if we didn’t have customers, we would likely still make them, we wouldn’t make them as much as we do because we wouldn’t want them to go bad. The work we put in to make an abundance is because our customers come back many times to purchase from us. They also tell their friends about us, and then we have new customers.

We love that people are happy enough with our products (they have a lot of pride in them) that they spread the word about them. So, please continue to do this because we love to meet new people and learn what they think about our products.

Tell Us What You Think

We always receive feedback with open arms. We want to know how we can make your experience the best one possible. When we say experience, we mean through the buying process AND when you’re enjoying our nuts and wine. From the moment we meet you to the time you run out of your products, know that we are here to ensure you have the best experience possible. You can call us or come see us if you have any concerns or questions. We see ourselves as walnut and wine experts, so we’re always ready to discuss our passion.

Thank you for your support and business.

Wine Investments Surge

Many people don’t just like to drink wine, they like to collect it. This investment is a big one, and lately, has really surged making investors quite happy.

Fine wine is not the best-performing collectible! Wealthy collectors are happy that the price on fine wines have increased 25 percent over the last 12 months. This is great news for investors who already have a nice collection of the best wines in the world.

What’s even more surprising is that The Knight Frank Luxury Investment Index has reported that fine wine investment has actually superseded classic car as the top collectible. So, while we used to think the wealthiest people would invest in classic cars, that’s not changing over to the finest wines.

What are the best wines to invest in right now?

  • Bordeaux
  • Burgundy
  • Northern Italian wines

In the last five years, these wines have increased in worth by 61 percent! Yes, that means anyone who purchased these bottles five years ago have made over 61 percent more off their investment.

Wines and Other Investments

According to Knight Frank, wine is in the lead of the most lucrative investment. Art is second, but not performing as well as the wine. Other contenders are watches, jewelry, and coins. Unfortunately classic cars are trailing nowadays along with stamps, colored diamonds, and antique furniture.

The Cause of the Surge

The Chinese are recovering after the financial crisis. They have a stronger economy and buying of wines has increased significantly over the years. They weren’t as interested in wines in the past, but now, they have developed a taste for it. Not only in drinking, but in the money they can produce. The Chinese have purchased more than 100 chateaux in France’s Bordeaux region.

According to the Knight Frank report, “After the crisis, the Chinese buyers were buying high-value wines not because they liked them, but because they perceived those wines to be the ones to buy. We saw the bubble pop. Now the Chinese win buyers are more connoisseurs.”

What’s Coming Up

While wine is in first place right now, it won’t be much of a surprise if art speeds to the top of the list as the best performing investment. For those who are into collecting, grabbing bottles of wines and then the best art in the world could end up being a great reward.

KIND Bars Recall Due to Not Identify Walnuts on Some Packages

KIND Bars announced a recall this week because they failed to identify that walnuts were used in some of their varieties. This is a major recall, and we wanted to be share it with all of our readers.

As consumers, we must be informed of what is in everything we buy. No one wants to ingest something that they didn’t know they were taking into their body. Of course, many people don’t even think about looking at the ingredients. Usually, these are people who are not allergic to many things. It’s the people who do have some allergies that need to pay particular attention to everything they purchase.

There are some people who have a walnuts or nut allergy. This can be serious if they purchase the KIND Bar not knowing there are walnuts inside of it.

Those with allergies can become seriously ill and require hospitalization. While others may just suffer from minor side effects that can be controlled with prescriptions.

In any case, KIND Bar has taken the necessary steps to keep people from becoming ill from their snacks by pulling them from the shelves and spreading the word across major media outlets.

What You Should Do If You Have the KIND Bar

If you have the KIND Bar, you can contact the manufacturer for a refund. If you’re not allergic to walnuts or nuts, you can consume the bar because there’s nothing necessarily wrong with it. It’s the package that is failing to provide the information needed to keep consumers safe.

If you’ve become ill because of a KIND bar you consumed and didn’t know there was walnuts in it since the package didn’t say so, you may also want to contact the manufacturer.

What We Think

We believe eating walnuts in its natural form is best. Instead of eating a KIND Bar, we suggest eating what the bar is made up of, such as eating whole walnuts. This way, you know exactly what you’re getting, and your body will like that best.

We understand that this type of bar and others are convenient, but so are walnuts as long as you take the time to put them in a baggy. Yes, if you have to shell them, you may not see it as very convenient. However, shelling them at home, and then putting them in a baggie or container to eat as a snack later can be just as easy as carrying around a bar.

Walnuts In the Fall

There’s nothing better than walnuts in the fall. Many people dream of pumpkins and apples, but we dream of walnuts.

The fall is all about walnuts as far as we’re concerned. It’s the fall nut.

During autumn, walnuts are straight off the tree, they are only dried briefly and the texture is creamy. The flavor is sweet and subtle as well.

Of course, walnuts are just as good when you pop them in your mouth for a tasty snack. However, they are also good when you toss them into recipes.

Whether you like your walnuts in a salad or a dessert, the flavor will bring you back to fresh, fun, and care-free days.

No matter what you choose to put these nuts into, it will improve the taste. Think of cakes, tarts, cookies, and the best of all: baklava. Everyone loves baklava with fresh walnuts, right?

Don’t forget that tossing walnuts in risotto or pesto (crushed up of course) is also a great choice.

Making a platter of cheese, crackers, and walnuts is a crowd pleaser. When you’re hosting a football game, Halloween, or Thanksgiving party, there’s nothing better than having a platter of delicious apps for people to pick on while enjoying some beverages, such as wine.

What You Need to Know

Walnuts in the shell last longer. So, if you choose to purchase unshelled walnuts, be prepared to use them quickly. No one wants rancid walnuts.

Stay away from shells that have mold on them. That means they are on their way out. If you’re looking for the unshelled ones, go with the ones that look plump, not dry and shriveled up.

When you bring them home, be sure to keep them at room temperature. You don’t want to keep them in the refrigerator or next to your stove in the kitchen. These two places will quickly make the walnuts lose their flavor. Instead, place them in a cabinet or pantry. Those two locations will keep temperature more consistent and keep them from going bad for several weeks.

Now, that’s for shelled nuts. If you are keeping unshelled nuts, go ahead and place them in the fridge. Keeping them cold will keep them fresh longer for a bit longer than keeping them at room temperature.

Want your shelled nuts to last longer? Place them in the freezer. They can last up to a year in there. Just know they may not taste as fresh as they do when you purchase them if you choose this option. This is best for when you want to use your walnuts in recipes.

Stressed? Red Wine Can Help

Have you ever turned to a glass of wine in times of trouble? If so, you’re giving your  body what it needs.

According to Scripps Research Institute, there’s something in red wine that really does decrease stress. Resveratrol is a compound found in the drink that stimulates a stress response gene. This compound can protect your DNA during times of stress.

So, yes, red wine does indeed protect your body from stress. WIN!

The author of the study says, “…it is conceivable that moderate consumption of a couple glasses of red wine would give a person enough resveratrol to evoke a protective effect.”

But Be Careful

While the resveratrol can be a great stress reliever and protect your body from the effects of stress, it’s important that those who are susceptible to addiction be careful.

Wine should never be used to self-medicate. If you’re under a large amount of stress, and you feel as though you are often turning to wine in a way that could hurt you rather than help you, it’s time to turn to a professional.

Wine consumption should be done in moderation. While it’s good to feel at ease after drinking a glass or two of wine, if you’re unable to function during the day because of it, you’re drinking too much.

Think of wine as something that you enjoy in small quantities. A glass of wine after a hard day at work may be okay. Having a glass of wine with your steak dinner may also be okay. Having several glasses of wine to forget about the day isn’t good, and it’s a sign that you may need other help, such as seeing your physician for anti-anxiety/anti-depressant medication.

Enjoying Wine for a Better Life

Wine should be beneficial to your life. It should decrease stress. It should be enjoyed. We love providing the best tasting wine to give you that enjoyment as well as all of the other benefits that red wine provides. Allow us to be your source for the best wine you can purchase online or come to our winery for tastings.

We look forward to helping you live a better life with better wine.

Do Wine Grapes Taste Different from Table Grapes?

One of the most common questions we receive from customers is if wine grapes taste different than the grapes you buy from the grocery store. We love this question because it gives us the opportunity to show how unique and awesome our guest wineries are when it comes to growing the best grapes for the wine they produce.

Wine vs. Table Grapes

The taste of wine grapes is much different from table grapes for several reasons.

Wine grapes are sweeter, softer, and juicier. They have a thicker, chewier skin on the outside of them too. The seeds inside of the grapes are bigger. If you were to bite into a wine grape, you would notice these differences immediately. While they may not taste like wine, you’ll notice they also don’t taste like table grapes.

Table grapes are bigger. People like to have grapes that they can taste the burst of flavor in them when they bite. Their skin is thinner and crunchy. The seeds are much smaller too. Most people would probably rather have the bigger seeds since they would be easier to find and spit out, but the small seeds are perfect for those people who like to eat the seeds with the grapes.

Wine grapes are much riper than table grapes. Table grapes continue to ripen after they are picked, so when they have to be transported to the grocery store, they may end up getting over ripe in that time. Picking them when they are slightly under-ripe ensures the grapes aren’t overripe when people buy them.

Now when you go shopping at the grocery store, you will likely think differently about the grapes you’re picking out. Look for them to be either under ripe or at the peak of ripeness. This way you know that you have a day or more to consume them. Grapes that were picked too late will be mushy.

Our Guest Wineries

Our guest wineries, take special care of their vines. They understand that good wine comes from good grapes. They work hard so you can purchase wine that is made of high quality grapes that have been cultivated organically. They don’t believe in using chemicals to keep insects and weeds away. They also don’t use chemical-based fertilizer.

You will likely taste the difference when you visit our guest winery. Come by today for a tasting. We would to show you how much our sister wineries love and care about their grapes and the wine that they make from  them.

Organic Walnuts vs. Non-Organic

walnut butter

The most popular question we receive is what the difference is between organic and non-organic walnuts. We love this question because it gives us the opportunity to show people how much we truly care about the integrity of the nut.

We believe organic is best. It’s natural, more delicious, and healthier than non-organic. These are the reasons:

Non-Organic or Conventional Walnuts

Walnuts that are non-organic may have been grown with chemical fertilizers. The fertilizers make the plants grow faster and bigger to produce more nuts quicker.

Insecticides are sprayed on the plants to reduce pests and diseases.

Farms that are non-organic use chemical herbicides to manage weeds.

What this basically means is that the plants harbor chemicals. Most of these chemicals are dangerous, even poisonous to us as humans. The reason this continues to occur is because we don’t ingest enough of the chemicals to harm us. But, do you really want to put dangerous chemicals into your body? We don’t.

This is why we believe in natural, organic walnuts.

Organic Walnuts

Organic walnut plants are fed with natural fertilizers. Examples of natural fertilizers are manure and compost.

Insects, birds, and traps are used to keep pests and diseases from harming the plants.

Crop rotating, tilling and weeding or mulching is how the group is kept healthy and fertile.

As you can see, there’s no chemicals involved. This means when you eat walnuts grown organically, you get the nuts in their truest form. Of course, you don’t want to imagine yourself ingesting manure or compost, but know that this isn’t as bad as you think. The manure and compost seep into the plants, and the plants use it. Anything remaining washing off – it doesn’t stick to the plants like chemicals do.

There’s more work put into the growth of plants when you don’t use chemicals. Keeping insects, birds, and traps around enough to keep prey away is a job – a hard one, but it’s worth it.

Getting in the fields to till, weed, and mulch is keep the ground from being taken over by weeds is laborious, but then again, worth it.

We just feel better about selling organic walnuts. They are better for human bodies and we believe they taste better.

Consider Our Walnut Products

We have many varieties of walnuts available at our store and online. We also sell walnut butter, which is much better than peanut or almond butter (in our honest opinion). If you haven’t tried it, this is your chance. Once you try walnut, you may never go back.

The Truth About Omega-3 Fatty Acids in Walnuts vs. Fish

The omega-3s in walnuts and fish are not created equal. Many people believe that they are the same, but unfortunately, that’s not the case.

This is not to say that you’re not getting as much benefits from walnuts as you are with fish. It’s to say that they are both beneficial to include in your diet.

There are many different types of fat in foods. The fats in fish are much healthier than the fats from plants.

In plants, the omega-3 is a-linolenic acid (ALA). The omega-3 in fish is eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosapentaenoic acid (DHA). The human body cannot make EPA or DHA. The only way our body can get them is by eating them directly (from fish) or using a building block like ALA. The body can take ALA to make EPA and DHA in the liver.

Since the body needs to work to make EPA and DHA when it receives ALA, it’s not as efficient. The composition is different. The body cannot replicate the exact reactions that come from the EPA and DHA from fish.

According to Philip C. Calder, who is a professor of Nutritional Immunology at the University of Southampton says, “The human body can convert the plant omega-3s into the fish omega-3s but in many people this process does not seem to work very well. One reason for that might be the high amount of omega-6s that people eat – these stop the body’s conversion of plant omega-3s.”

What this translates to is that people who only get their omega-3s from plants will remain low in DHA and EPA.

This is important to know because both types of omega-3s are important. The long-chain fatty acids from fish protect people by reducing the risks of dementia and cardiovascular and heart disease. The omega 3s from plants helps protect cell membranes to ensure they have enough energy and energy store.

Vary your diet as much as possible. You shouldn’t get nutrients from only one type of food. You should eat a variety of foods (meat and plant based), so you can benefit from all of them. Be sure to eat fish or take fish oil pills. Get in your plant-based omega 3s with walnuts. Limit your omega-6s which is poultry, eggs, etc. because most people get too much of that. Balance is key when it comes to eating healthfully. Understand what to eat that is healthy and change it up as much as possible.

Do Walnuts Change Our Brains for Better Weight Control?

What if eating walnuts changed your brain? This includes your brain chemistry and reactions. Recently, this was studied and the results are quite interesting.

Walnuts and the Brain: What Researchers Are Finding

A new study was released that shows that walnuts may influence an area of the brain called Insula. The Insula is responsible for impulse control along with many other emotional reactions and feelings such as perception, motor control, self-awareness, cognitive functioning and interpersonal experiences. Changes to this part of the brain could lead to changes in the how angry, afraid, disgusted, happy, or sad someone is in certain situations. The researchers speculate that walnuts, and possibly other foods, may help people who have a difficult time with willpower when dieting.

If walnuts slow down the reaction of Insula, then it might be easier for people to think through their food choices. Instead of running to the candy machine and just grabbing chocolate, someone may take a minute to search for the healthiest choice and choose that for a snack. This could then lead to weight loss.

Other Research on Walnuts

Other research has been released that suggests walnuts increases satiation and decreases hunger. It’s hard to say if that’s because of brain changes. This may simply be due to the nutrients in the nuts that satisfies the body’s nutritional needs. Of course, being satisfied means that someone wouldn’t be so ravenous when looking to eat something. That only comes form being overly hungry.

Researchers are still trying to come up with the best information on walnuts and what they can do for our body. What we know is that these nuts are the best ones to have as a snack. They are delicious and zap out hunger. Not only that, with so many varieties, you don’t have to worry about getting bored of the same old nut.

We love following research that has to do with walnuts. With every new study, there’s a little more information we can use to show people the power that walnuts have over our body. We will continue to present you the research, so you can make the right decisions for your body’s health.
