Foods that Prevent Bloating

Bloating is one of the worst feelings in the world, and we’ve all experienced it at one time or another. But here are several foods that can actually help fight bloating and some that can even allow you to find quick relief.

Walnuts

Nuts, and especially walnuts, can help decrease bloating because of the insoluble fiber in them. This bulks up one’s stool, which can make passing gas and making bowel movements much easier. However, it is important to remember that walnuts can sometimes cause digestive issues of their own if they are not soaked in water first (a process known as sprouting). Keeping some walnuts in water in a sealed container can be a great way to fight bloating because they’ll be ready whenever you need them.

Honeydew Melon

Eating honeydew melon can also be very helpful when it comes to bloating. The fruit flushes out the extra water your body is retaining, and because it is high in potassium, it works to naturally replace the electrolytes in your system that may have been lost previously (and may be causing your bloated feeling).

Apple Cider Vinegar

Green Tea

Green tea has always been known for its ability to help with digestive health. It can reduce issues with inflammation in your digestive tract and it’s a great source of antioxidants, which are always helpful.26

Onion

If you want to eat something you know will probably make you feel bloated—like a hot dog or a hamburger—try throwing some onion on there! Onions can actually improve bloating and other gastrointestinal issues as well as potentially prevent them. (There’s still a possibility you might experience some bloating, but onions can help!)

Yogurt with Probiotics

When in doubt, go to yogurt with probiotics. There are plenty of yogurt products available that are meant to be gut-healthy and to help you digest better. These products can also minimize issues with bloating and gas and help you be more regular. While you shouldn’t expect miracles, these yogurts can really be helpful when you’re in a pinch and need some relief.
