Limerock Orchards walnut oil begins with our passion – the California walnuts our family has been growing for over 40 years, using the dry farming techniques that farmers of grapes and olives in the Mediterranean perfected over thousands of years.
Our walnuts taste just as they were meant to
When we planted our grove of walnut trees about 40 years ago, we knew we wanted to grow walnuts that tasted how they were meant to – fruity and earthy with a hint of tartness. This is why we gave our trees lots of space to stretch out, to drink in the rain that does fall, and grow their walnuts naturally, without the pesticides or fertilizers used in larger operations.
We harvest in fall, after the first rain
Our walnuts show us when they are ready to be harvested, their bright green hulls begin to crack, revealing our first look at the luscious nuts within: This usually happens just after the first rain of the fall season, and then it is time to press the light, gold-colored oil from the harvest.
Our walnuts are English heirloom
We have chosen to grow heirloom English varieties of walnuts, meaning the seeds that have grown into our trees have been passed down through generations, such as the Hartley and Franquette varieties treasured for the sweetness and fullness of their taste.
Walnut oil has healthful properties
The United States Department of Agriculture publishes MyPlate, a guide for healthful eating, and California Walnuts, representing walnut growers for more than 60 years, has published information that links the health benefits of walnuts to the recommendations of this important guide.
Limerock Orchards walnut oil is versatile
Limerock Orchards walnut oil works beautifully as a finishing oil, drizzled on a salad of mixed greens and crisp pears or over freshly steamed asparagus. And Yotam Ottolenghi, the acclaimed Israeli-born British chef, creates a walnut salsa, featuring the oil of this fruity nut, goats cheese and pomegranate seeds.
Pocket-sized walnut oil? Absolutely.
At Limerock Orchards, we offer our oil in various sizes, beginning with our 60ml pocket-sized bottle and moving to our small bottle of 250 ml and finishing with our large bottle of 500 ml. Should our clients wish to test our product before committing to it wholeheartedly, we suggest our alluring pocket-sized bottle.
It was in the late 1700s that Franciscan fathers introduced the hard-shelled walnut to California, hence their original nickname of “mission” walnuts. At Limerock Orchards, we are proud to produce walnut oil that does its long history in California proud – and deserves a spot in your pantry.
